Welcome!

I hope that I can be of service to you.

I have helped parties resolve hundreds of commercial disputes, both while I was a partner at a multi-national law firm and now as an arbitrator/mediator.  I have broad experience, particularly deep in high technology, medical, natural resources, aviation, and commercial matters.

A fulsome description of my background is available by clicking on the CV tab on this website.  In brief, I am a J.D. from the Harvard Law School, dual-qualified as a member of the Minnesota (US) bar and as an English barrister.  I am a Chartered Arbitrator and Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, a Fellow and Member of the Board of Directors of the College of Commercial Arbitrators, a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers (Minnesota chapter), and a member of Lincoln's Inn (London).

During my 30+ years as a partner at Dorsey & Whitney, I chaired the firm's litigation/arbitration practice, served as partner-in-charge of the firm's international practice, and headed the firm's London office. I now serve exclusively as arbitrator or mediator. As to matters within the United States, I serve as principal of North Coast Arbitration Chambers, Minneapolis; as to matters outside the United States, I serve as an arbitrator member of Maitland Chambers, London.

Since leaving Dorsey in 2014, I have also taught the international arbitration courses at the Harvard Law School and at the University of Minnesota Law School.

Although I am based in Minneapolis and London, I travel everywhere.

If you believe that I could be of service to you, I would be happy to speak with you. I must ask, though, that interviews be conducted in accordance with the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators' practice guideline "Interviews for Prospective Arbitrators."

Sincerely,

Paul Klaas
